Professor S. K. Gupta has been engaged in the research and development and promoting Cardiovascular Sciences in India for the past two decades. He has served as President of International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences for last 10 years. During this period, he has organized several national and international conferences which has created awareness, education and encouraged students for research in Cardiovascular Sciences. Dr. Gupta has published more than 60 publication on establishing a Scientific Basis for the use herbal drugs in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. This work has been published in prestigious national and international journals. For his outstanding contribution, Dr. Gupta has been awarded ‘Distinguished Leadership’ Award, ‘Makato Nagano’ Award, and ‘Life Time Achievement’ Award in Cardiovascular Sciences by The International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences, Canada.
Professor Gupta is the National Advisor to the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) and also the founder of WHO National Pharmacovigilance Center at AIIMS. Dr. S K Gupta was formerly Head, Department of Pharmacology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and has been Dean & Director General Institute of Clinical Research (India), a premier and Pioneering Institute in the Country. He has been visiting Professor to several prestigious universities in UK, USA, Germany etc. Dr. Gupta has published more than 262 research papers and edited fifteen books on Basic Principles of Clinical Research, Drug Discovery and Clinical Research and Pharmacovigilance etc. and he has guided more than 200 postgraduate students. He is elected fellow of IPS (India), ISER (USA), IACS (Canada) and FRSC (Romania). Dr. Gupta has been awarded UKIERI Educational grant this year to work on management of diabetes and its complications.
Professor S K Gupta has been extensively engaged with teaching, research and development of Pharmaceuticals at Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research (DIPSAR) for more than twelve years. He has an excellent knowledge about the teaching, research and pharmaceutical curriculum. He has received several grants from ICMR, DST while at DIPSAR for research on Drug Discovery. In recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field, Dr. Gupta has been nominated as expert-member of a number of committees of DST, DBT, CSIR and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Govt. of India, and was member of governing body of the Central Council of Research in Ayurveda. He is also the President of ISPOR India Chapter for the past 4 years. During this period he has created awareness amongst the Industry and Academia and have organized Four International conferences which were attended by experts from Industry academia and students. Now ISPOR is well cognized in the country for its goals and programmes. Government is also now recognizing the vision and mission of ISPOR.
