Dr Tejal R Gandhi is a senior Research Scientist and Academician, with over 22 years of experience in Pharmaceutical Research. After obtaining B.Pharm in 1990, Dr Gandhi did her M.Pharm from L M College of Pharmacy. She was selected as a Senior Research Fellow with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, a Govt of India-sponsored Research Institute. Dr. Gandhi also played a lead role in the development of a new molecule for treatment of hyperlipidaemia. As a result of the efforts of this research team, with QSAR techniques, a new molecule LM-1554 was synthesised and pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and mechanism of action of this new cholesterol-lowering agent was investigated. Dr. Gandhi joined the Anand Pharmacy College in 1999, and currently she is Head of the Institute, and Dean (Pharmacy), Gujarat Technological University (GTU). Dr. Gandhi oversees an active research team of 20, comprising of Doctoral Fellows, Post-graduate students, Associate & Assistant Professors, and Research Technicians. Her research team is involved in the investigation of novel receptors as drug targets particularly in the areas of cardiovascular and diabetes. Over the last one decade, Dr. Gandhi has also been involved in the search of new molecules from herbal origin in the areas of urolithiasis, cataract, inflammatory bowel disease, etc. Under her leadership, the research team in her Institute laboratory has been involved in the development of analytical methods for the same. One patent has already been published to her credit.

She has published more than 100 research papers in International and National Journals covering various aspects of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Gandhi is actively involved with the activities of International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences (IACS). She was the organizing secretary for the International academy of cardiovascular Sciences during the 4thWorld Congress of the International Society of Heart Research in 2011. Because of her significant and continuous contribution to the academy she was made the fellow of IACS in 2014. In February 2016 she shouldered the responsibility at the helm as conference chairperson for the India section meeting of IACS. During this conference she was conferred with ‘Distinguished Leadership Award’ for her outstanding flair for her overall research and management skills. She has received more than 30 national and state level awards for the research work presentation or publication like GUFIC prize, P. P. Suryakumari prize, Hari-ohm ashram prize, Subhash C Verma Memorial prize, Indian Pharmacological Society Ahmedabad Branch prize, GUJCOST prize. She is recipient of R.V.Patel Best Research Guide Award for Best Pharma Thesis 2011, Pedagogical Innovation Award by GTU, National level best Principal Award 2013, Best teacher of the year by IPC trust.
